Driving from Cincinnati to Toledo , it’s a three hour straight shot. Indications of cities, factories, and natural areas dot the exists. Summer 2021, without the pressure of time or destination, I drove to Dayton, Piqua, Sidney, Wapakoneta, Lima, and Findlay. I parked my car, put my feet on the ground and explored the parks, river, and architecture around me. I documented the space, then returned to my home in Cincinnati.

I used to do this is high school, except I would go north. I would leave Toledo, drive up towards Ypsilanti, get off at any exit and park my car. It felt freeing to be away from home and comforting to easily return.

On this journey I first went with my friend, Addie, then decided to make trips alone. I assumed this was the best way to fully observe what was around me. When I went to Lock Nine Park in Piqua I was followed to my car. I continued my weekly trips afterwards, but couldn’t help but feel a disruption in my act of making. It’s difficuly to observe spaces with the fear of someone observing you. In affect I didn’t wander, and gravitated towards spaces reminiscent of home.
